While most resolutions involve exercising more and eating less, you should not overlook your website when it comes to making changes for the New Year.
Just like us, a website can benefit from the occasional “freshen up”, and below are some easy, low-cost tips for getting the best from your website in 2015.
1. Update Your “About Us” and “Contact Us” pages
Ensure all the contact information on your website is current and accurate. You can lose customers permanently if they reach a disconnected number or use an email address that is rejected. Include opening hours and a Google Map if you have a physical location.
2. Add new, updated images
Keep your content fresh and interesting with the use of imagery. Don’t be afraid to use stock photos. Using graphic charts and visuals provide an interesting avenue to include information in an appealing format. Photographs of projects or products also explain detail, while cutting back on the amount of reading required by the site’s visitors.
3. Break-up Lengthy Articles
The use of bulleted or numbered lists breaks up lengthy articles and adds interest for the reader. The use of bold headlines and section breaks catches the reader’s eye and draws it to sections of interest.
4. Make Your Site Mobile Friendly
More and more people visit the web from their smart phones. Every business should provide its clients and customers with a web site that is mobile compatible and easily accessible from their smart phones and other mobile devices. If your website is more than two years old there is a good chance your website is not mobile friendly. There are a number of options available to you if your site is not mobile friendly, please contact us for more information.
5. Utilise Social Media
If you are not using Social Media – it is time to start! If you are, think about how you can become better at engaging your fans. Ask yourself, “Is my business page interesting enough that I would be a fan?” Remember it is not just about selling a product or service, you are positioning yourself as an expert in your field. Make sure there are links from your website to all the Social Media sites you are using: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, LinkedIn etc.
Happy New Year!
